Visting Associate Director of BandsFull TimeJR100011ANNOUNCMENT OF POSITION VACANCYABOUT THIS POSITIONSummary:The Colorado Mesa University Department of Music seeks a dynamic Visiting Associate Director of Bands for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility to apply for a tenure-track position pending approval in 2027. The primary responsibilities of the position are leading and directing a marching band (fall), a basketball pep-band (winter), and a concert band (spring). This faculty position reports directly to the Academic Department Head of Music, with feedback from the Director of Bands, and interfaces significantly with other areas on campus, particularly the Director of Athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Collaborate with the Director of Bands to implement a shared vision for CMU Bands
- Direct and recruit students for the Athletic Bands
- Maverick Stampede (Marching Band, fall)
- Maverick Sound (Pep Band, winter)
- Direct the CMU Concert Band (spring)
- Teach other academic courses and/or applied lessons based on candidate qualifications, experience, and department need

- Experience directing and producing marching bands
- Experience directing concert bands in secondary or collegiate settings
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in Music
- Three or more years of public-school teaching experience in music with ability to teach courses in the music education curriculum
- Marching band show production and creation, including music arranging and effective use of drill-writing software (Pyware)
- Evidence of strong program building and coordination (recruitment, design, social media usage, budgeting, travel, efficiencies, effectiveness, etc.)
- Ability to teach applied lessons on the candidate's primary instrument
- Experience in working with diverse populations in an inclusive environment
