Position SummaryThe Indiana University Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for a faculty position as a vocal coach, opera coach, and collaborative pianist. The successful candidate will have an extensive and successful background as a performer and coach, experience in a broad range of vocal repertoire, and will be able to work effectively with faculty colleagues, staff colleagues, and students in a professionally-oriented educational environment. The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music combines artistry, pedagogy, and research to prepare its students to fully realize the potential of the expressive arts to change lives and to enrich society. This is a ten-month, full-time, and tenure-ineligible position, with an initial three-year appointment.Responsibilities include activities in the Voice Department, Chamber and Collaborative Music Department, and IU Opera Theater. Duties will include individual and duo coaching of both recital and operatic repertoire, coaching and playing for rehearsals for the IU Opera Theater, preparing and performing with students, and may include coordinating projects with visiting artists. Other duties may be assigned from within the above areas.
Basic QualificationsMaster's degree in collaborative piano, piano, or related is required. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered. Candidates should possess comprehensive knowledge of lyric diction and be proficient in basic Italian, German and French. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of artistic accomplishment and technical keyboard skills, fluency in sight-reading, ability to coach pianists and singers, a lively intellectual and musical curiosity, and good organizational skills.
