St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Mechanicsburg, PA, is a vibrant, welcoming congregation of approximately 335 members, with an average weekly attendance of 115. We are an Open and Affirming congregation, embracing all people as beloved children of God.

Located in Central Pennsylvania, our church blends tradition with forward-looking ministry. We seek a Music Director who shares our passion for meaningful worship and will lead and nurture our music ministry, fostering creativity, collaboration, and spiritual expression.
The Opportunity
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ is seeking a part-time collaborative, spirit-driven Music Director to shape a vibrant, inclusive music program. The ideal candidate is passionate about music in worship and skilled at working with volunteer vocalists of all ages and experience levels, including our Choristers (pre-k through 5th grade), Youth Choir (6th through 12th grade), and Chancel Choir (adult choir).
We are looking for a patient, encouraging leader who can nurture vocal skills, foster participation, and create a welcoming environment where all singers can contribute joyfully to worship.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate music for Sunday worship in collaboration with pastors and the Worship Committee.
- Attend the Worship Committee meetings.
- Select hymns and musical pieces aligned with sermon themes and UCC values.
- Direct the Chancel Choir, leading weekly rehearsals and preparing them for Sunday services.
- Direct and nurture the Choristers and Youth Choir, fostering musical growth and confidence.
- Recruit and encourage volunteer vocalists from the congregation.
- Lead music for special services, including Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and other events.
- Manage the music program’s budget, library, and instruments.
- Collaborate positively with staff, volunteers, and the congregation to support the church’s mission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in church music ministry, with knowledge of worship practices and musical traditions.
- Ability to select, teach, and lead diverse musical styles for singers of all ages and abilities.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative, encouraging leadership style to inspire and build rapport with volunteers and staff.
- Commitment to the progressive, inclusive values of the UCC.
- Experience in recruiting and facilitating singers, including children, youth, and adults.
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
