Franklin Music Academy, an established and growing music school in southwest Austin, is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Drum Instructor for our 2026 Summer Music Camp. This is a temporary contract position for two camp weeks: June 22–26 and July 6–10, with camp hours running Monday through Friday during the day.
Our mission is to inspire, teach, and mentor the amateur musician looking to enjoy a life filled with music, and we are looking for an instructor who reflects that spirit through both musicianship and personality.
We are seeking a dependable teacher who enjoys working with children in a fun, high-energy environment and can confidently lead beginner and intermediate drum students in both group and individual settings. Candidates should be comfortable teaching students ages 7–12 and creating an encouraging atmosphere that keeps campers engaged, excited, and learning throughout the week.
The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively with other music instructors during ensemble activities and camp performances. Experience teaching private lessons or group music classes is preferred.
Franklin Music Academy provides curriculum guidance, instruments, and camp structure, allowing instructors to focus primarily on teaching and connecting with students.
This is a short-term contract opportunity ideal for musicians, educators, college music students, or working instructors looking for meaningful and enjoyable summer teaching experience in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Duties
- Deliver engaging, energetic lessons that motivate students to improve their technique and musical understanding
- Manage classroom dynamics effectively, ensuring a respectful and focused learning environment
- Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback to encourage growth
- Prepare students for performance, fostering confidence and stage presence
- Maintain records of lesson plans, student attendance, and student progress
Skills
- Strong knowledge of drum techniques, music theory, and instructional methods
- Experience in curriculum development and lesson planning for various age groups
- Excellent teaching and classroom management skills to engage students effectively
- Ability to work with children, teenagers, and adult learners with patience and enthusiasm
- Familiarity with behavior management strategies and childhood development principles
- Experience in tutoring or providing specialized instruction in areas like early childhood education or special education
- Proven ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles in classroom settings
Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in music OR equivalent work experience is required.
- Must have at least 1 year of recent teaching experience
- Be currently living in Austin or the surrounding area
- Plan on living in Austin for at least 2 years
- Be available to teach at least 3 afternoons M-F 3pm – 8pm and/or a shift on Saturday 10-3 pm
- Have a strong desire to be a successful teacher

- Submit student progress report, which may include pictures and/or short videos of students to track progress
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
