Position Overview
Merritt Academy is seeking a passionate and engaging Part-Time Elementary Music Teacher to work with students in grades K–4. The ideal candidate will foster a love of music while building foundational skills in rhythm, melody, movement, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music lessons for students in grades K–4
- Teach fundamental music concepts including rhythm, pitch, tempo, and expression
- Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, and creative activities into instruction
- Prepare students for school performances and events
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners
- Collaborate with staff to support school-wide initiatives and student success
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (or ability to obtain) with music endorsement
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to inspire creativity and enthusiasm for music
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Orff, Kodály, or similar elementary music methodologies
- Ability to accompany on piano or guitar
- Experience directing elementary performances or ensembles
