Music Instructor (Piano & Voice) — Structured Teaching Role
Piedmont School of Music & Dance (PSMD) is hiring a piano and voice instructor to take on a consistent schedule of private students.
This role is best suited for instructors who are:
- Comfortable teaching both voice and piano weekly
- Structured, reliable, and professional
- Interested in long-term student development (not casual teaching)
Role Overview
You will teach private lessons in both voice and piano, working with students of varying ages and skill levels. Lessons are consistent and recurring each week.
This is not a drop-in or casual teaching role. We are building a structured, retention-focused program.
Core Responsibilities
Instruction
- Teach one-on-one voice and piano lessons weekly
- Adjust instruction to student level, goals, and pace
- Cover vocal technique (breath support, tone, diction) and piano fundamentals
Student Development
- Track student progress and maintain consistency
- Prepare students for recitals and performance milestones
- Maintain lesson quality and engagement week-to-week
Communication
- Provide clear updates to families through Opus
- Handle scheduling, absences, and expectations professionally
Environment
- Maintain a focused, structured, and positive lesson setting
- Address behavior and engagement issues directly and calmly
Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- Ability to teach both voice AND piano confidently
- Prior private lesson teaching experience
- Reliable weekly availability during program hours
- Strong communication and professionalism
Preferred (But Not Required)
- Music degree or formal vocal training
- Experience teaching multiple age groups
- Experience preparing students for performances or recitals
Schedule
- Monday - Friday: 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- [Occasional] Saturday: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
Consistent weekly schedule expected.
Compensation
- From $30 per hour (based on experience)
- Consistent student load provided

- Instructors who only teach one discipline (voice or piano only)
- Instructors looking for occasional or flexible/drop-in work
- Instructors unwilling to follow a structured program
