Church Drummer
Position Title: Musician/Church Drummer
Department: Music Ministry
Reports To: Pastor, Worship Leader
Status: Part-Time/Contract
Position Summary
The Church Drummer is responsible for providing rhythmic accompaniment during worship services, rehearsals, and special church events. The drummer plays a vital role in supporting the worship experience by enhancing praise and worship through musical excellence, sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and collaboration with the Praise Team and Music Ministry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Worship Services
- Provide drum and percussion accompaniment for Sunday worship services.
- Support congregational worship through appropriate musical styles and dynamics.
- Follow the direction of the Worship Leader and Pastor during services.
- Adapt to spontaneous changes during worship, prayer, altar ministry, and special moments.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the flow of worship and the spiritual atmosphere of services.
Praise Team and Music Ministry Support
- Accompany the Praise Team during rehearsals and services.
- Learn and rehearse music selections in advance of scheduled services.
- Work collaboratively with other musicians to create a cohesive worship experience.
- Assist with transitions between songs, ministry segments, and special presentations.
Special Services and Events
- Provide musical support for special church events, including:
- Revival Services
- Pentecost Services
- Church Anniversaries
- Christmas and Easter Programs
- Youth and Community Events
- Special Worship Gatherings
- Provide drumming accompaniment for funerals, memorial services, and homegoing celebrations as requested.
- Participate in weddings and other church-sponsored events when available.
Rehearsals
- Attend all scheduled rehearsals and arrive prepared.
- Practice independently to maintain musical proficiency.
- Learn new songs, arrangements, and worship sets as assigned.
- Communicate scheduling conflicts in advance.
Equipment Care
- Assist with maintaining drum equipment and accessories.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly.
- Help ensure instruments and equipment are properly stored after services and events.
Professional Expectations
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Maintain a positive attitude and spirit of cooperation.
- Respect church leadership, ministry staff, and fellow musicians.
- Support the mission, vision, and values of the church.
Qualifications Required
- Proficiency in playing drums and percussion in a worship setting.
- Ability to play various gospel and worship music styles, including:
- Traditional Gospel
- Contemporary Gospel
- Praise and Worship
- Hymns
- Praise Team Accompaniment
- Ability to follow musical direction and adjust tempo, volume, and style as needed.
- Dependable attendance and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Previous experience serving in a church music ministry.
- Ability to play by ear and follow live worship transitions.
- Experience accompanying choirs, praise teams, and soloists.
- Familiarity with Pentecostal and contemporary worship environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and perform for extended periods during rehearsals and services.
- Ability to move, lift, and set up drum equipment when necessary.
- Ability to participate in extended worship services and special events.
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on experience and service requirements. Additional compensation may be provided for funerals, weddings, conferences, revivals, and other special events.

The Church Drummer serves as a ministry partner and is expected to contribute to an atmosphere of worship, excellence, and spiritual engagement through music. The individual should strive to use their musical gifts to glorify God and support the ministry of the church.
