Job Summary
As part of the music and children’s ministry staff at Pasadena First United Methodist Church, the Cherub Choir Director is expected to be a collaborative, creative, professional part of the leadership of the church. A love for teaching music, encouraging and nurturing very young children to enjoy music, singing and sharing in worship is essential. The Cherub Choir should be developmentally appropriate, engaging, fun, and focused on the formation of young Christians. The Cherub Choir Director is responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate music lessons, selecting music, and directing the Cherub Choir. Our music staff works as a team led by the Director of Music Ministries.
Worship Responsibilities
- Selecting music appropriate to the age and ability of the Cherub Choir.
- Regularly communicating and coordinating with the Director of Music Ministries with regards to when and what pieces the choir will be sharing in worship;
- Preparing and directing the Cherub Choir in occasional special events (such as the Christmas concert, Pageants, etc.)
- Planning and directing weekly Cherub Choir rehearsals.
- Planning other music lessons to provide a foundation of basic musical skills.
- Welcoming and encouraging new children to join the choir.
Administrative and Supervisory Duties
- Attending Music and Children’s Ministry meetings as requested;
- Regular and timely communication with parents and participants regarding rehearsals and programming;
- Coordinate with Facilities Manager regarding rehearsals, calendaring and building use needs;
- Submit expense requests to the Director of Music Ministries. The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for the music budget and will approve all requests before expenditures are made;
- Recruit persons to organize and maintain music library (as needed);
- Maintain the children’s choir room such that it is tidy and welcoming.
Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching or leading young children in musical or choir settings
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire children of diverse backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills to effectively connect with children, parents, and team members
- Demonstrated mentoring ability to nurture confidence and develop musical potential in young learners
- Passion for working with children and fostering their love for music within a spiritual or community context
- Ability to plan engaging lessons that balance fun with educational value
- Flexibility to adapt rehearsals based on children's needs and developmental stages
- Reports directly to Pastoral Staff, Director of Music Ministries, and the Church Leadership Council

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
