Compensation: $35--$40/hr, depending on experience.

ABOUT BAMP
Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an El Sistema-inspired after-school music education program that supports the social-emotional and academic needs of children in under-resourced communities by providing high-quality music instruction, nutritious snacks and homework assistance, regardless of ability or circumstances. Our staff embraces the social and musical missions of our program; they nurture both the individual and the musician.
JOB SUMMARY
The Ukulele/General Music Teaching Artist provides beginning and intermediate ukulele instruction and engaging general music experiences to elementary students through small-group classes and ensemble settings. Students develop foundational musicianship through singing, rhythm, movement, active listening, music games, chord progressions, strumming patterns, improvisation, and ensemble playing. The Teaching Artist inspires musical curiosity, creativity, confidence, and collaboration while fostering a lifelong love of music. Working collaboratively with fellow teaching artists, the Ukulele/General Music Teaching Artist helps create a joyful, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports each student's musical, social, and emotional growth.
Responsibilities
- Teach engaging beginning and intermediate ukulele and general music classes to elementary students through small-group and ensemble instruction.
- Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate lessons that build foundational musicianship through singing, rhythm, movement, music games, active listening, improvisation, chord progressions, strumming, and ensemble playing.
- Inspire musical curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of music while supporting students' social-emotional growth.
- Create a safe, structured, inclusive, and joyful learning environment with clear expectations and positive classroom management.
- Prepare students for rehearsals, performances, and program showcases.
- Collaborate with fellow teaching artists to ensure a cohesive, high-quality music education experience across the program.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate attendance, student records, and required administrative documentation, including lesson planning, payroll reporting, and program communications.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, professional development, and other program activities as assigned.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate has
- Experience teaching ukulele and/or general music to elementary-aged students.
- Strong musicianship and proficiency on ukulele; additional instrumental or vocal experience is a plus.
- At least one year of classroom, private lesson, or ensemble teaching experience.
- A passion for working with children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
- Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- A collaborative mindset, positive attitude, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
- A bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Willingness to complete Live Scan fingerprinting (background check) and provide proof of a negative TB test.

WORKPLACE DEMANDS
- Work Hours - Part-time, hourly, with some responsibilities on weekends and/or evenings, depending on the program’s concert calendar
- Location - Exposed to changing conditions in indoor, outdoor, and virtual settings--including in school campuses, classrooms, libraries, offices, venues, parks, and other community spaces
- Cleanliness & Odors - Clean to moderately clean; Occasionally works with children with varying access to hygiene support
