Job Summary
The Sanctuary Organist plays a vital role in enhancing the worship experience through music. This position involves performing on the organ during services, special events, and rehearsals, contributing to the spiritual atmosphere of the sanctuary. The ideal candidate will possess a strong musical background, particularly in organ performance, and have a passion for creating uplifting worship experiences.
Duties
- Perform organ music during weekly worship services, including hymns, preludes, and postludes.
- Collaborate with the choir director and other musicians to prepare for special services and events.
- Select appropriate music that aligns with the liturgical calendar and enhances the worship theme.
- Attend regular rehearsals and meetings to coordinate music selections with other members of the worship team.
- Maintain the organ and ensure it is in good working condition for performances.
- Engage with the congregation through music, fostering an inviting atmosphere for worship.
- Participate in community outreach events as needed, providing musical support to enhance these gatherings.
Experience
- Proven experience as an organist or pianist in a church or similar setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of various musical styles, particularly those relevant to church services.
- Familiarity with theater music can be beneficial for enhancing performance versatility.
- Strong sight-reading skills and ability to learn new pieces quickly are essential.
- A degree in music or equivalent experience is desirable but not mandatory.

This position is from the months of September-May. Salary is total compensation for the year. We have an Associate Organist that plays during the summer. Playing for the occasional funeral and wedding is also expected, where compensation is paid separately per service. This also includes playing for Christmas Eve and Holy Week extra services, as well as accompanying the Sanctuary Choir during rehearsals (Sunday morning before worship) and during the worship service.
