Overview:
General Purpose of Job:
To provide leadership to the Creative Arts Department, assist in planning for Divisional events, and to promote & equip for the enhancement of worship services both at the corps and Divisional levels. To provide leadership, direction and creative programming for all phases of the Creative Arts Program in the NEOSA Division. The Creative Arts Director will support and promote all Divisional events, using Corps and Divisional creative arts groups. The Creative Arts Director will work closely with Corps Officers to equip them with resources and program outlines to enhance worship components and worship services. It is expected that the Divisional Creative Arts Director, in fulfilling his/her responsibilities must be a uniform-wearing Salvationist who commits to a local Corps through being an active Soldier, tithing, and upholding high morals as the Division will look to them as a role model. In this position, you play a vital role in carrying out The Salvation Army’s mission.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support all corps in assessing and enhancing their quality of worship, with an intentional focus on Sunday worship by supporting them with creative worship program ideas and resources, introducing and encouraging various forms of expression.
- Lead Creative Arts in weekly worship and at other gatherings
- Incorporate and promote Christian values into the Creative Arts.
- Stay current with and implement Keep Safe training and policy and adhere to it in all areas of the job description.
- To participate and lead prayer, to teach/instruct in religious principles, and to be responsible for faith formation. To model and reflect Christian behavior.
- Support corps by teaching creative arts at least 3 nights a week and ensuring local leadership is trained to continue this ministry.
- Identify, recruit, and develop leaders for ACCEL and Corps leadership in Creative Arts. Coordinate leaders to teach for the ACCEL program.
- Provide training and events to help develop leaders and growth not limited to but including the Territorial Arts program Evergreen.
- Attend corps events in support of corps creative arts performances.
- Support corps with leadership and resources to assist in the further development of creative arts programming, including creative program ideas and resources, leadership recruitment and development, and recruitment and training of corps group participants.
- Create developmentally appropriate activities for youth and adults in dance, drama, and art, including digital and video resources.
- Coordinate the NEOSA Divisional Drama Team- to include a Summer Ministry Team to help with VBS and Jesus Theater Training
- Coordinate the NEOSA Divisional Dance and Drama group.
- Oversee the Creative Arts program at the Divisional Youth Music and Arts (MAP) program, including recruiting, training, and processing MAP leaders in Creative Arts.
- Plan MAP schedules in cooperation with the Divisional Music Director; communicate regularly with the field regarding monthly schedules and any schedule updates and changes. Promote and assist the corps with MAP participant recruitment.
- Plan, direct, and recruit leadership for the Creative Arts component of Divisional Music & Arts Camp and Creative Arts Conservatory.
- Create and teach choral readings, responsive readings, and choreodramas to enhance worship throughout the year, including holidays and special occasions. Create and provide meeting outlines to promote variety and innovation in worship services.
- Promote the use of live music and, where appropriate, worship videos (approved according to CCLI licensing).
- Actively participate in divisional events, including but not limited to Divisional Family Camp, Youth Councils, Star Search, Jr. Soldier Rallies, Music & Arts Camp and Conservatory, Women’s and Men’s Camp, and Divisional Rallies and gatherings.
- Attend and give stage direction for divisional events as needed/appropriate. Prepare tech sheets for all divisional events
- Support territorial events as requested and/or related to worship and creative arts.
- Actively recruit young people and adults (as appropriate) to participate in Music Camp, divisional Conservatory, Star Lake, TAM, MAP, and NEOSA Dance/Drama/Timbrels.
- Meet regularly with the Program Secretary and, as needed, the Divisional Music Director for strategic planning and information updates.
- Attend Divisional and Territorial events as requested, such as TAM, Jesus Theater Training, and the Creative Arts Conference.
- Participate as an active member of the Divisional Music Committee, Youth Commission, and Women’s Commission; serve on other divisional committees and commissions as requested.
- Work within the established guidelines and budget restrictions for purchasing materials and running special events at corps and divisional levels.
The growth of Creative Arts programs at the Corps, the advancement of Divisional Creative Arts groups, and the effectiveness of building up Creative Arts programs throughout the NEOSA Division will gauge the position's results and effectiveness.
The position is subject to the Ministerial Exception and is exempt from federal and state employment laws.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in the field or equivalent experience preferred.
At least 1 to 3 years of experience in the field or a related field.
Valid Ohio Driver’s License
SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS.
Strong organizational and communication skills
Good computer skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sibelius/Finale.
Willingness and ability to teach both children and adults.
Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the mission of The Salvation Army.
