Brass Caption Head

Position Summary:

The Columbus Saints Performing Arts is seeking a Brass Caption Head for our DCI All-Age Drum & Bugle Corps Program for the 2024 season (Nov 2023-Sep 2024).

The corps is weekend only, and travels locally to competitions including World Championships within 2-4 hours, typically completing only 6-7 overnights the entire year.

Position Overview:

Candidate should be local to Ohio within 2-3 hours of Columbus ideally
Directly works to recruit, and retain talent for the organization
Teaches and cleans brass section
Make adjustments, and communicates with arrangers and staff to ensure musical arrangements better fit membership abilities
Runs rehearsals musically in the brass section, and assist in ensemble instruction
Oversees the coordination of staff, and brass membership in support of Program Coordinator
Prepare and deliver periodic reports to program coordinator, and directors
Plans, rehearses and directs brass for the corps throughout the pre-season, till completion of the season in keeping with organizational values of inclusion, education, and personal development
Monitoring the delivery of the brass program to maintain or improve quality providing a memorable experience for members, staff, and the community
Implements marching/music technique in a full ensemble and sectional setting

Qualifications:

Strong organizational skills
Clean Driving Record
Excellent interpersonal skills
Willing and able to pass background check
Individual should be a strong leader in music and the marching arts with excellent skills in conducting, marching, choreography, and performance
Experience in the marching arts (DCA, DCI, WGI, college band, etc)

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a contractor encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors in Spring, and Summer.

Our organization attempts to cater to all with the requisite skill, including those with learning or limited physical abilities including autism or limited visibility. As such, your work may include working with a small number (1-2 persons) of special needs and at-risk youth performer(s) to integrate as best as possible into the production as capable members with direct, and constant support of their parents.

The Saints do not maintain physical offices, and as such manage the organizational business through email, regular meetings, phone calls, text, and other forms of communication. During our weekend summer day or overnight trips, the Saints travel in a communal method often with staff, volunteers, and occasionally members traveling together in contracted vehicles, and or sharing similar accommodations (gym floors, classrooms, for sleep) in a gender and age segregated manner..

Time Commitment:

Year-Round time commitment:

Occasional meetings/year, which is about varied hours/month

Monthly rehearsals (Dec-Mar) ; based on need ; 24-30 hours/month

Summer-Time commitment:

20-24 or more days (a mix of half-days and full days)

Salary:

The salary for this position is $1500-$2000 based on experience, education, capable attendance at events, and is open to negotiation based on these factors
