Overview:

Beaumont School seeks a part-time Music Teacher who is a dynamic music educator and who believes in individualizing education to maximize student learning. The successful candidate must seek to build a strong relationship with students, parents, faculty, and community. The candidate will be able to plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of general music, band, and chorus classes in addition to coordinating events, performing groups, and competition participation. This position requires an individual that excels independently as well as in a collaborative environment.

Summary:

The Music Teacher instills in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture. This role will teach the techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression and discover and develop the talents of students in the field of music.

Reports to: Principal

Status: Exempt, part-time, year-round

Responsible for teaching two, 90-minute blocks each day on a 2-day A/B cycle every other

day

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in education/or related field; Graduate Degree or other advanced education, or equivalent work experience preferred
Current Ohio Teaching License
Current BCI/FBI Background Check
At least three years of successful full-time experience as a classroom teacher preferred; Administrative experience beneficial

Position Responsibilities:

Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and/or choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to students
Plans and executes a balanced music program, organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
Trained in IB Music and teaches IB Music Curriculum, including elements of composition, performance, and critical analysis
Provides individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students
Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community as well as for regional music competitions
Evaluates each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing individual contribution to the performance of the group
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
Strives to implement by instruction and action the philosophy of Beaumont
Evaluates student academic and behavioral progress keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
Identifies students’ needs on a regular basis, provides necessary accommodations as needed and cooperates with the administration and other faculty members to address issues as they arise
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss the student’s academic and behavioral progress and interprets the school programs
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. For the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, attending county and state workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning
Performs other duties as assigned or required

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. General office environment. Work is primarily, but not exclusively, in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential or work hazards; however, there are sometimes stressful conditions. Working conditions will require working in front of a computer for several hours. Occasionally working outside, standard working days or hours is required. Frequent in-person meetings for individuals or groups, tele-meetings, and phone calls. Travel to prospect schools and external events. Variations in noise level will occur.
