As one of the Four Pillar Directors, you will have the amazing opportunity to oversee the day-to-day operations of the historic Hoover Auditorium; home to Lake Erie’s finest shows, dynamic performers, and entertainment. You will be responsible for the scheduling, management, budgeting, and oversight of all arts-related programming provided in relation to the Lakeside Chautauqua mission. Duties include hiring, managing, evaluating, and collaborating with all managers and coordinators in Arts & Entertainment leadership positions.

Focus will be on the energetic and creative arts programs including Hoover Auditorium, Saturday afternoon concerts, Sunday in the Park series and Special Events including Lakeside Art and Photography Shows, and Hoover Lobby exhibits.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Research, budget, negotiate, schedule and contract Hoover Auditorium, Steele Memorial Bandstand and Pavilion arts & entertainment events during Chautauqua Season and shoulder season events including Lighthouse Festival, Lakeside Christmas, and similar events
Support fellow Pillar directors and other departments with logistics of all programs held in Hoover Auditorium (Lutheran Chautauqua, Keynote series, Sunday worship, etc.)
Manage all aspects of contract requirements for Hoover acts including but not limited to lodging, hospitality, local ground, and special requests
Assist Hoover Technical Director with coordinating all elements of technical production, including rental agreements for gear and backline rentals
Provide guidance to Hoover Technical Director on recruiting, hiring, and evaluating crew and all seasonal staff
Recruit, hire and train seasonal Arts & Entertainment Management Intern, Hoover Technical Director and LSO Manager and Librarian
Assist with overall operation of the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra
Manage intern in facilitating Art Show, Photo Show, Plein Air Festival, and Gladiola Show
Assist Marketing staff in gathering electronic press kits and other promotional materials for inclusion on Lakeside Chautauqua website, calendar of events, newspaper, and other publications
Oversee all music and movie licensing contracts, and ensure all licensing data is tracked, reported and invoices are paid in a timely manner
Network with colleagues through Ohio Arts Professionals’ Network, Midwest Arts Expo and other avenues to ensure a high caliber artist series is planned for Hoover Auditorium
Assist with the operations and management of arts programs in Orchestra Hall
Coordinate with programming staff and other departments to accomplish the above functions
Provide presentations on Lakeside Chautauqua and upcoming season programming to local service organizations, church groups, senior communities, etc.
Serve as active member of the Lakeside Chautauqua management team; attend all scheduled huddles, meetings, and retreats
Ensure safe practices and procedures are implemented for all areas of supervision
Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include the supervision of full-time and seasonal employees hired to assist with the operation. Direct communication with the President, management team and other key Lakeside Staff.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in theatre/arts management or related field required, Masters degree preferred. Experience in arts & entertainment programming as well as business organizational knowledge is strongly recommended. Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills and exhibit common sense. The ability to motivate and manage a team, as well as creative thinking and strategic planning experience required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the operation.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission, portions, and percentages and to apply the basic math concepts.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions where only limited and standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee needs to have the ability to multi-task, especially during the season. He/she needs the mental frame of reference to have patience with patrons and their concerns. Also, the ability to laugh, listen to others and use common sense is helpful.
