Position Summary: St. John’s Church in Lancaster is seeking an individual to serve as the Organist/Pianist. Serve as principal organist and pianist to provide musical accompaniments for all liturgical ceremonies, including, but not limited to, parish weekend liturgies, weddings, funerals, holy days, Triduum services, evening prayer, and to cooperate in providing occasional and reasonable liturgical music at other times.

Job Responsibilities: The individual applying for this position would perform the following responsibilities:

1. Work in close collaboration with the Rector, Associate Rector(s) and 4-church staff music director.

2. Rehearse during the choir season with the parish choir(s). Rehearsals approximately 90 minutes.

3. Provide music for instrumentalist and rehearse as needed.

4. Arrange for any work necessary for organ and piano tuning, as needed.

5. Provide music for Christmas, Triduum, Bishop Visits, Sunday services and any other special occasions.

6. Procure copyright and prepare music for reprint as needed. Enter data into OneLicense.

7. Review new music, liturgical journals, and attend workshops.

8. Assist wedding couples with music planning according to appropriate guidelines and provide organ/piano accompaniment.

9. Provide organ/piano accompaniment for funerals as needed.

10. Rehearse all music prior to the service.

11. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for this job.

Required: Compliance with background check and completing Safe Church Training and Anti-Racism Training.

Education: Masters Degree, or equivalent, in music preferred.

Experience: Minimum 3 years parish music experience or similar experience required. Knowledge of pipe organ and piano is preferred.

Job Related Skills: Knowledge of Episcopal liturgy; proficiency in organ and piano.

Interpersonal Skills: The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.

Pay: $150.00 - $300.00 per week
