Blocktown Sound is helping to source a paid, part-time Audio / Video Production Associate for an ongoing live recording project for a private client based in Skokie, IL. This is an ongoing opportunity (not a one-time project) supporting live music recording sessions in a professionally equipped private studio environment.

Clarification on Employment: This role is for a private client of Blocktown Sound. This position will work directly for the client and will be paid directly by the client. Blocktown Sound is assisting with assessing individuals and providing training and on-site technical guidance, but is not the employer of record.

Schedule & Commitment

Minimum of one recording session per week.

Sessions are typically a minimum of three hours and often run longer.

Flexible scheduling (day or evening, coordinated in advance).

Opportunity for additional sessions over time.

Training & Mentorship

You will receive direct, hands-on training and mentorship from Chris Burke, lead at Blocktown Sound, an experienced audio/video professional with over 20 years of experience. Training will be focused on learning how to run sessions smoothly in a live environment. Audio-related responsibilities are the primary focus of the role; video-related tasks can be learned on-site.

Equipment & Systems

You’ll be trained to work with a professional audio and video recording setup, including:

Audio / Sound Engineering:

Logic Pro: Session setup, tracking, and workflow optimization.

Signal Flow: Understanding patchbays, preamps, and interface routing.

Microphone Technique: Placement for drums, amplifiers, and acoustic instruments.

Gain Staging: Maintaining clean signals in a high-stakes live environment.

Cues/Monitoring: Managing headphone mixes for performing musicians.

File Management: Precise labeling and organization of session assets.

Video / Visual Components:

OBS (Open Broadcaster Software): Scene transitions and live capture.

Camera Operation: Framing and focus for multi-cam setups.

Lighting: Basics of studio lighting for video recording.

Digital Video Assets: Managing file storage and sync.

Live Switching: Coordinating visuals in real-time with the audio performance.

Responsibilities

Assist with live recording sessions.

Help set up and break down equipment (mics, cables, instruments).

Assist with running recording sessions in Logic Pro.

Support basic video capture in OBS as needed.

Help manage session files and materials.

Support the overall flow and "vibe" of live sessions.

Qualifications

Recent graduate, upcoming graduate, or equivalent experience in audio production.

Solid foundation in audio engineering concepts.

Interest in live recording environments.

Fast learner who takes direction well.

Adaptable, reliable, and easy to work with.

Appreciation for different styles of music.

Ability to commute reliably to the client’s location in Skokie, IL.

About the Project

The client is a longtime musician and songwriter who has built a private home studio to focus on ongoing music projects. In addition to a primary band, occasional guest musicians or bands may also be recorded.
