Radio Music Director — Run It Up Radio

Job Description

Run It Up Radio is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Radio Music Director to help shape and maintain the sound of our growing digital radio network.

The Music Director will work directly with the Program Director and station management to oversee music selection, rotation, new music evaluation, artist submissions, chart activity, and overall music programming across multiple genres.

This position requires someone who understands music beyond simply knowing popular songs. We are looking for someone who understands radio rotation, emerging records, current music trends, audience tastes, and how music fits within an overall radio programming strategy.

Responsibilities

* Curate and maintain music rotations across the station
* Review new music and artist submissions for potential airplay
* Recommend records for addition, rotation changes, or removal
* Maintain balanced heavy, medium, light, recurrent, and specialty rotations
* Work with the Program Director on the overall musical direction of the station
* Monitor music charts, streaming trends, social trends, and emerging records
* Identify new and developing artists and records
* Help maintain appropriate music flow across multiple genres and programming blocks
* Communicate with artists, labels, managers, DJs, promoters, and industry representatives when necessary
* Maintain organized records of music submissions and programming decisions
* Coordinate with DJs and programming staff regarding station rotation
* Ensure music meets station standards, including appropriate/clean versions when required
* Participate in programming and music meetings
* Assist with specialty programming, new-music features, countdowns, and artist spotlights

Qualifications

* Strong knowledge of current and emerging music
* Knowledge across genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Latin, Caribbean, Afrobeat, Gospel, and related formats is preferred
* Strong understanding of radio programming and music rotation
* Ability to recognize records with audience and radio potential
* Familiarity with music charts, streaming platforms, and music-industry trends
* Excellent organization and communication skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with programming, DJs, artist relations, and station management
* Previous experience in radio, music programming, DJing, A&R, record promotion, music journalism, or the music industry is preferred
