Job SummaryThe Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at Lamar University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music Education with appointment beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education (in-person, hybrid, and online), supervise clinical teachers, oversee all music education activities (about 75% of music majors), promote and actively recruit for the Master of Music in Music Education degree, and perform additional duties as assigned based on departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications.
The Assistant Professor of Music Education will have a teaching and clinical supervision load equivalent to twelve credit hours each semester, assigned according to expertise and experience. The individual selected for this position will serve as the liaison with the College of Education and Human Development to prepare music education majors for Texas teacher certification, oversee music education assessment reports for the university, state, and accrediting agencies, and engage in other service activities, such as TMEA, Regional meetings, etc.
Essential Job Functions- Supervise clinical teachers, teach courses in music education, and perform other teaching duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:- Doctorate in Music Education (DMA or PhD); ABD is acceptable if the estimated completion date is no later than 08/31/2026.
- Texas Educator Certificate (preferred) or valid certificate from another state: Music Grades (EC-12).
- Three or more years of successful music teaching at the elementary, middle school, and/or high school levels.
Desired Qualifications:- Texas Educator Certificate (valid): Music Grades (EC-12). If the certificate has expired or is from another state, a valid Texas certification must be obtained within one month of the start of classes during the first full semester of employment.
- Experience as a choir or band director at the middle school and/or high school level(s) and/or elementary/general music.
- Candidates with middle and/or high school teaching experience are preferred.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students in music education, and a demonstrable record of creating/updating courses in music education.
- Experience in maintaining records and working with music faculty on behalf of students regarding observation hours and TExES exams.
- Experience with pre-professional and/or clinical teachers in conducting formal and informal classroom observations using the T-TESS rubric.

Physical Requirements:- Able to lift 25 lbs. and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
Job Conditions:- In-state driving is required for this position and may occasionally be extensive.
