The Methuen Catholic Collaborative has a current opening for a part time experienced Collaborative Music Director for approximately 20-25 hours per week. This is a benefit eligible position. Base pay 35k, separate stipend for funerals weddings ($250 per funeral & wedding, approx 100 annually)
JOB PURPOSE
As Music Director, this individual will direct and coordinate all musical needs for the collaborative. The purpose of the Music Director is to develop and lead the worship music ministry for our collaborative, in consultation with the Pastor and other team members. Under the supervision of the pastor, qualified candidates must be an outstanding musician with proven leadership abilities who is capable of professional preparation and execution of sacred music. They must also encompass a pastoral sensitivity to the celebration of the Catholic liturgy and understand the importance of music within the celebration of the Eucharist.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Select and plan music for all liturgies at both St. Monica and St. Lucy Parish in conjunction with the pastor that is reflective of the liturgical season, the specific liturgy of the day and in accordance with church documents regarding sacred music.
- Execute/lead music for all weekend Masses
- Available for all funerals (~100/year) and weddings (~10/year) in Collaborative. Plan both as needed.
- Approve any and all visiting musicians and process paperwork timely and accurately for payment.
- Recruit, train and shepherd volunteer musicians (choirs, cantors, etc.) Goal: create a collaborative / combined adult and children choir each.
- Assist with Religious Education Masses during the school year as needed.
- Availability to execute/lead music for any and all additional liturgies (Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, all Holy Days of Obligation, Confirmation, First Communion, School Graduation, School assemblies, etc.).
- Plan and execute musical events as components of Parish life (Lessons and Carols, etc).
- Serve as a member of the parish leadership team and participate in meetings as needed.
- Develop the Liturgical sensibilities of the parish as coordinated with the Pastor (e.g. Chant).
- Keep up to date on developments within the field of liturgical music.
- Ensure all copyrights are obtained for any music used. Ensure maintenance of all musical and audio equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music and/or proven professional experience leading/executing music within the Roman Catholic Liturgy.
- High proficiency in organ, voice and leading/accompanying soloists and choirs.
- Familiarity with various liturgical music genres with focus in traditional hymnody and Gregorian chant.
- Basic knowledge of the Church’s tradition of sacred music and documents governing its use in the Liturgy.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Computer competency to create worship aids and bulletin insert with Mass music and readings (Source and Summit via Publisher, Canva, etc).
- Demonstrated ability of serving collaboratively with other members of the parish staff.
- Authentic relationship with Catholic Faith and respect for individuals.
- Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, and creative.
