St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, is a vibrant and welcoming congregation of approximately 335 members, with an average weekly attendance of 115. Located in Central Pennsylvania, our church blends tradition with forward-looking ministry. We seek an Organist who shares our passion for meaningful worship and will provide musical leadership and accompaniment that enhances our services.
The Opportunity
St. Paul’s United Church of Christ is seeking a skilled and dependable Organist to provide organ music for our weekly worship services and special events. This role is key in supporting the overall worship experience and working collaboratively with pastors and the Music Director.
The Organist will focus on providing music for worship, and will have occasional responsibilities for accompaniment as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide organ music for Sunday morning worship services, including preludes, postludes, hymns, and special music as appropriate.
- Collaborate with pastors and the Music Director to select music that complements sermon themes and the style of worship.
- Prepare music for special services throughout the year, including Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and other seasonal or community events.
- Maintain and care for the church organ and music library.
- Collaborate professionally with church staff and volunteers to support the worship experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a church organist or accompanist, with familiarity in traditional worship and hymnody.
- Ability to accompany congregational singing skillfully and sensitively.
- Knowledge of a wide range of hymns and sacred music appropriate for traditional worship.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Professional, reliable, and collaborative in working with pastors and church staff.
- Commitment to the progressive and inclusive values of the United Church of Christ.
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
