OVERVIEW
The Associate Director for Contemporary Worship and Music will help fulfill First & Calvary’s mission of making disciples of Jesus by providing vision and leadership for the church’s contemporary worship life.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for this position are experienced ministry leaders who worship Christ and are eager to shepherd others in worship. Additional qualifications include:
- a growing and deepening faith in Jesus Christ
- vocal and instrumental proficiencies
- 1–2 years experience leading worship and developing worship teams
- a heart for worship, a knowledge of scripture, and a commitment to team ministry
- experience integrating faith and the arts
- strong communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills
- a willingness to embrace our denomination’s Constitution, including our Essential Tenets, Polity, and Rules of Discipline. Our denomination is ECO, the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians. More information can be found at https://eco-pres.org/
- Preferred: a bachelor’s degree and experience in helping others create new works
RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities will revolve around worship (50%), new works (25%), and ministry partnerships (25%). These responsibilities will include:
Worship
- providing vision and leadership for the ongoing maturity and renewal of the church’s gathered worship
- shaping the service with appropriate collaboration and shared responsibility across staff and volunteers (including the atmosphere, AV, music, musicians, speakers, and creative elements)
- creating an atmosphere of worship (Spirit-led shepherding, musicianship, integration of scripture, and prayer)
- fostering community and connection among guests and members through hospitality, artistic excellence, and relational ministry
- overseeing musical ensembles such as the Worship Team, recording groups, and other musical collaboratives (artistic direction, selection of music, rehearsals)
- recruiting volunteers, and coaching/equipping staff, scholars, and volunteers
New Works
- collaborating with artists in and around the church to create new works of story, music, and art for worship
- offering these resources for use outside of corporate worship
- balancing week-to-week worship leadership with longer-range creative projects, in collaboration with the Director of Worship and Music
Ministry Partnerships
- serving as a thought partner to the leaders of the church (including regular participation in staff meetings, worship meetings, and Worship and Music committee meetings)
- partnering with church leadership in arts ministries (from planning, to execution, to evaluation)
- partnering with Campus Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Children’s Ministry for worship experiences
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full time (30 hour a week) exempt salaried position with benefits included. The Associate Director for Contemporary Worship and Music reports to the Director of Worship and Music.
