About Science & Arts Academy
Science & Arts Academy (SAA) is an independent JK–8 school for gifted learners who think, learn, and explore differently. Our mission is to provide a stimulating, supportive, and collaborative environment for bright, curious students who thrive on challenge.
At SAA, we believe that education should nurture a child's intellectual curiosity, creativity, and character. Our teachers, staff, and families work together to create a joyful community where gifted learners are celebrated for who they are and encouraged to be the best at getting better.
Position Overview
The Band, Orchestra & General Music Teacher brings musical excellence and genuine enthusiasm to one of SAA's most beloved programs. This on-site position teaches beginning strings, co-leads middle school ensembles, and guides students through the full arc of their musical journey — from first notes to festival stages.
Working closely with the Music Team and the broader faculty, this teacher helps students develop technical skill, artistic confidence, and a lifelong love of music. This role reports directly to the Head of School.
The ideal candidate is a skilled musician and natural educator who thrives in a collaborative environment, connects deeply with curious and driven students, and believes music is a powerful force in the development of the whole child.

- Collaborate with the Music Team to plan and deliver a cohesive musical experience across grade levels.
- Prepare and guide ensemble members for annual concerts, festivals, and contests.
- Actively participate in the daily life of the school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field; Master's preferred. Gifted Education coursework or certification is a plus.
- Illinois Teaching Certification (preferred but not required).
- Demonstrated experience teaching band, orchestra, and general music.
- At least three years of classroom teaching experience; experience with gifted learners preferred but not required.

- Passionate about instrumental music and student-centered learning.
- Innovative in approach, with a repertoire of creative teaching strategies.
- Skilled at creating a nurturing, high-expectation environment where students grow.
- Collaborative and communicative with colleagues across disciplines.
- Curious, reflective, and committed to ongoing growth as an educator.
