High School Music Teacher

Academy of Tucson Schools, an “A”-rated school system, is seeking a dedicated and student-centered High School Music Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This position includes teaching vocal/chorus, guitar ensemble (beginner and intermediate, and Music Appreciation.

Compensation is commensurate with teacher certification, experience, and continued professional development, recognizing both expertise and long-term commitment to the profession.
Primary responsibilities:
- Teach five sections of high school general music including, but not limited to, Choir, Music Appreciation, Guitar
- Teach daily rehearsal classes for high school choir
- Conduct all musical groups in regular, extracurricular performances
- Program appropriate repertoire for rehearsal and performance
- Schedule and teach individual and small-group vocal and/or instrumental lessons
- Manage and evaluate students' musical and academic development
- Develop weekly lesson plans
- Implement regular assessment strategies
- Develop and implement music curriculum aligned with Arizona State Standards for Music
- Monitor and document student progress toward Arizona State Standards for Music
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues regarding scheduling issues, upcoming performances, and student progress
- Develop and maintain additional vocal performing groups
- Competition ensembles
Secondary responsibilities:
- Lead students in providing music for community events
- Plan and perform two concerts per year, one each semester
- Design and produce printed programs for ensemble performances
- Manage assignment and care of performance uniforms
- Manage and maintain school instruments
- Maintain and expand music library and additional resources
- Participate in building-specific and district-wide teams
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of musical structure, form, terminology, and conventions
- Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate repertoire
- Knowledge of basic instrument care and maintenance
- Conducting skills
- Correct vocal production skills
- Communication skills
- Aural training to detect discrepancy in pitch and intonation
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor-level degree in education
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music
- Major in music education
Other preferred qualifications:
- Appropriate grade level certification
- Music endorsement or special certificate
- Basic piano skills
