About Fundamental Music Instruction
Fundamental Music partners with private and independent schools to provide high‑quality instrumental music education for students in grades K–12. We offer traditional band and orchestra programs during the school day, after school, and in hybrid formats.
We are a teacher‑centered organization that values professionalism, creativity, and a genuine love of music. Our instructors are the heart of our programs, and we work closely with each teacher to match them with schools near their home and schedules that fit their availability.
We anticipate openings in Northern and Central New Jersey.
Job Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable Instrumental Music Teachers to teach group classes in band and/or orchestra. This part‑time position is ideal for individuals who:
- Have experience teaching or coaching young musicians
- Are skilled on traditional band or orchestra instruments
- Are looking for flexible, meaningful part‑time work
- Enjoy helping beginner and intermediate students grow
Teachers should be comfortable supporting students on multiple instrument families at the beginner level. Training and curriculum support are provided.
Responsibilities
- Teach group instrumental music classes (band and/or orchestra)
- Work with students in grades K–8
- Support beginner and intermediate learners
- Prepare students for concerts and school performances
- Communicate with school administrators and parents
- Maintain lesson plans, attendance, and program materials
- Travel to assigned school locations within your region
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field
- Strong performance background on a traditional band/orchestra instrument
- Ability to read music
- Experience teaching children or leading group classes
- Current NJ DOE fingerprinting/background check (or willingness to obtain one)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching band and/or orchestra
- Ability to support multiple instrument families (training provided)
- Comfortable working with a range of ages (K–8)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Familiarity with notation software (Finale, Sibelius, etc.)
- Strong computer literacy
