Position Overview
· The Director of Music Ministry oversees and develops the church’s music program, ensuring that worship services are spiritually enriching through music. This role involves directing choirs, coordinating musicians, selecting appropriate music, and fostering congregational participation in worship.
· To promote leadership in developing and implementing the Anointed Church of Jesus Christ’s music ministry and actively engage the congregation in worship through music.
Key Responsibilities
· Worship Leadership: Plan and lead music for worship services, including Sunday services, special events (Christmas, Easter), weddings, and funerals.
· Choir & Ensemble Direction: Direct adult, youth, and children’s choirs, as well as instrumental ensembles.
· Music Selection: Choose hymns, contemporary worship songs, and special music that align with the church’s liturgical calendar and theological vision.
· Weekly Communication: Send a weekly email to the worship team with updates, including charted new songs as needed.
· Rehearsals & Training: Organize and lead rehearsals for choirs and musicians, providing guidance and mentorship. Maintain regular praise and worship rehearsal and communicate weekly with worship team members via email, text message, and phone calls.
· Collaboration: Work closely with the pastor, worship team, and church leadership to ensure cohesive worship experiences. Assist the Pastor with other music ministry-related projects as needed. Work with the Worship Leader and the Media Ministry on song lyrics. Participate in the monthly leadership staff meetings.
· Instrument & Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the care and maintenance of musical instruments and sound equipment. Cataloged and organized all music resources.
· Community Engagement: Encourage congregational participation in music ministry and recruit volunteers. Offer suggestions and observations that would improve the Anointed Church’s music ministry. Direct the praise team and possibly the choir (in the future). Recruit, encourage, and mentor vocal and instrumental musicians within the congregation and promote the music program.
· Budget Management: Develop and manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music materials and equipment.
· Continue Education: Attend continuing education training and conferences approved by the Pastor to enhance and improve job skills.
Qualifications
· Strong musical proficiency in vocal and instrumental performance.
· Experience in directing choirs and leading worship.
· Knowledge of traditional and contemporary Christian music.
· Ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and volunteers.
· A degree in music or worship studies or equivalent experience is preferred.
· Proficiency in at least one of the following instruments: Guitar, Piano, or Acoustic Drum Set.
· A commitment to spiritual growth, which will enhance the fundamental theological outlook of the Anointed Church of Jesus Christ.
Terms of Service
Hours Commitment: This part-time position requires approximately ten-plus hours a week. Work with the Pastor, Worship Leader, Director of Media Ministry, and the Worship Team.
5 to 10 hours per week, including:
- Mandatory Sunday morning obligations
- Service on the last Friday of each month
- Easter and Christmas engagements
- Participation in weddings and funerals
Compensation (Honorarium) Structure:
· A payment of $100.00 per Sunday, totaling $400.00 per month.
· If a month includes a fifth Sunday, no honorarium will be provided for that additional Sunday.
Benefits: There are no benefits for this position.
Termination of Service: Before termination of service by either the church or the staff member, a written two-week notice is suggested.
Supervision: The Director of Music Ministry is directly accountable to the Pastor for satisfactorily fulfilling all functions and responsibilities in consultation with the Council of Elders.
