GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The School of Education and Music provides academic study and training to students seeking teaching careers in public, private, or Christian education. Based on its conceptual framework, the School of Education has adopted the theme statement, "Educators who demonstrate scholarship within a Christian ethic of care." The Council fully accredits the teacher education programs at Southern Wesleyan University for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
In addition to specific academic requirements, SWU strives to create a distinctively Christian environment that fosters the integration of faith, learning, and living. To be considered for employment, applicants must complete an application and provide written responses demonstrating a Christian testimony and how faith and learning are integrated into the applicant's teaching.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
- Teaching undergraduate/graduate students online in a specific field of expertise
- Lecturing, facilitating online discussions, and assignments
- Grading assignments
- Revising the course to meet new standards
- Assessing grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations
- Reporting student learning outcomes, class reviews, and analyzing student data
- Advising students on how to be successful in class
- Staying updated on innovations and changes within their course field
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education. Minimum requirement is an education-related doctorate, preferably with a background in research.
- Teaching Experience Higher education teaching experience is required, including at the graduate level. Online experience is preferable.
- Face-to-face Requirements There are no specifically face-to-face requirements.
- Other Requirements The affiliate is primarily a dissertation committee member.
- Technology. SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals. The ideal candidate will be comfortable and familiar with the use of technology within the academic environment including distance learning and learning management systems. The affiliate must have the technological capabilities to operate within the online environment, including being comfortable using Zoom conferencing software.

- Physical/Environmental Requirements. Visual acuity necessary to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files. Teaching in an online format requires the affiliate to be flexible, available and responsiveness to the needs of his/her online students.
- Pre-employment Screening. Employment is contingent on the completion a criminal background screening.
