Located in the heart of Clemson's vibrant campus, the Brooks Center is a premier cultural venue dedicated to presenting world-class performances, supporting student education, and engaging the university and surrounding communities. As the chief visionary and administrator, the Executive Director will lead all aspects of the Center's operations, including strategic planning, programming, fundraising, and community partnerships to elevate its artistic impact and educational mission. This is a unique opportunity to shape the cultural landscape of a top-tier public university and to champion the transformative power of the arts. The Executive Director will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities and work closely to collaborate with the Chair of the Department of Performing Arts.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and program a season, including 25-30 professional music, theatre and dance arts events each season. Collaborates with Department of Performing Arts to schedule events and provide opportunities aligned with performing arts curriculum. Negotiates artist fees and prepares contracts in coordination with the Dean's Office and the Office of Procurement and Business Services to ensure that they are processed appropriately.
- Advance Department commitments to innovation and work to expand accessibility to a broad and varied audience.
- Follow developments in the field of performing arts as well as with relevant presenters across the US (e.g., Association of Performing Arts Professionals, Chamber Music America, etc.).
- Oversee all marketing and communications in coordination with staff. Work closely with University Relations staff to coordinate marketing efforts with the broader Clemson University audience.
- Provide overall management and administrative leadership needed to ensure that the Brooks Center is financially viable and cost-effective in its use of resources.
- Serve as a leader for the performing arts at Clemson University and build relationships with pertinent University Departments, units, and key stakeholders.
- Maintain strong relationships with donors, including subscribers, community leaders and corporate partners to build the Brooks Center's donor base. Lead fundraising efforts for the center; develop and implement the annual fundraising campaign, including special projects and fundraising events. Work with College and University grants staff to pursue foundation and other grants to support performances and educational opportunities.
- Support the educational mission of the Department of Performing Arts.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in performing arts or related field, master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with a track record of increasing leadership responsibilities and career advancement.
- Proven leadership in arts administration or cultural management.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, audience development, and strategic planning.
- A deep understanding of performing arts programming and community engagement.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
