Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:Job Summary This position is for full-time faculty member teaching courses within the music prefixes to maintain required teaching load. The specific courses assigned will be determined each semester based on enrollment and department needs. Courses are offered as applied music, ensemble, and lecture for both music majors and those seeking Creative Arts Core Curriculum.
Principal Accountabilities- Teach Music classes as assigned by the Dean, Assistant Dean or Department Head, providing instruction at a variety of locations/times and in a variety of modalities. This includes preparing and utilizing a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution, evaluating students' performance through a variety of means to measure timely progress, and assists in the development, distribution and collection of assessment data for courses and program outcomes/objectives.
- Direct concerts annually for the Jazz Ensemble and any other ensemble courses that are assigned for each semester's teaching load. This includes selection of appropriate repertoire and managing any guest performers along with the execution of Blinn College's annual jazz festival. Some of these tasks will take place on evenings and/or weekends.
- Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies, delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources by participating in required/applicable professional development activities.
- Recruit students for the program using a variety of methods including, but not limited to, direct school visits, email/phone communication, and networking with area band directors.
- Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
- Provide recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Head, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
- Assist with the review of incoming auditions to the instrumental music program.
- Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
- Possess a passion for teaching community college students.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and orally.
- Abide by all college requirements for orientation, weekly work hours, attending meetings, and serving on committees.
- Responsible for other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or CertificationsMasters Degree in the teaching field (Music) or in another subject that includes at least 18 graduate hours in Music.

- Ability to instruct students while achieving the course learning objectives.
Preferred Qualifications- College Level teaching experience, including distance education training/course development
- At least 3 years of experience directing an ensemble at a collegiate institution or with an organization of equal/great skill level
- Strong collaborative skills
- Experience with student recruitment

This is a 9 month, benefits eligible position. Blinn College pays 100% of health insurance for full-time employees, 50% for dependents, and two times your annual salary in life insurance benefits.
