About the Role
We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and faith-filled Music Teacher to join our school community on a part-time basis, three days per week. The ideal candidate will inspire students from PK3 through 8th grade to explore music, develop foundational skills, build confidence, and experience the joy of creative expression.
This role is perfect for an educator who loves working with children of all ages, brings energy and imagination to the classroom, and understands the important role music plays in a well-rounded Catholic education.
Responsibilities
The Music Teacher will:
- Develop and implement engaging music lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
- Provide music instruction to students in PK3 through 8th grade
- Teach students foundational music concepts, including rhythm, melody, music reading, listening skills, and basic music theory
- Introduce age-appropriate vocal, instrumental, movement, and performance activities
- Create a positive, inclusive, and faith-centered learning environment that encourages creativity and student participation
- Foster appreciation for music across cultures, traditions, liturgical life, and school celebrations
- Plan, organize, and lead the school Christmas Program
- Prepare students for performances, assemblies, prayer services, liturgies, and other school events as needed
- Prepare music for and play at school Masses, prayer services, and other faith-based school celebrations
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and staff to integrate music into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide activities
- Adapt instruction to meet the developmental needs of students across PK–8 grade levels
- Assess student progress through observation, participation, performance, and regular evaluations
- Provide constructive feedback that supports student growth and confidence
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, participation, and performance assessments
- Support the Catholic identity of the school through music, example, and participation in school faith life
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field
- Master’s degree preferred
- Experience working with students in a classroom, school, choir, ensemble, or private lesson setting
- Strong knowledge of music theory, general music instruction, rhythm, vocal music, and age-appropriate music pedagogy
- Ability to teach a wide range of grade levels, from early childhood through middle school
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a joyful, structured learning environment
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Patience, creativity, flexibility, and a genuine passion for music education
- Familiarity with Catholic education, Catholic traditions, or liturgical music is preferred
- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of a Catholic school community
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience teaching music in a school setting
- Experience planning student performances, concerts, Christmas programs, or liturgical music
- Familiarity with early childhood music instruction
- Experience incorporating movement, instruments, singing, and technology into music lessons
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership on special events
