Job Summary
St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland, Texas, is seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Music Ministries to lead our music and worship ministries. This vital role involves overseeing all aspects of music ministry, including directing choirs, planning worship, relating to the people, and growing the program. The ideal candidate will possess a strong musical background, exceptional leadership skills, and a heart dedicated to fostering spiritual growth through music. As a key spiritual leader, you will cultivate an engaging worship environment that encourages participation, enhances the congregation’s worship, and nurtures the musical talents of team members.
Responsibilities
General
- Partner with Lead Pastor in worship planning and direction/vision of program
- Supervise Organist, Guest Musicians, Volunteers
- Manage music budget
- Ensure maintenance of instruments
- Identify, recruit, equip, and lead vocalists and other musicians
- Provide music for some weddings and funerals
Choirs
- Oversee and coordinate all music programs
- Schedule and conduct regular rehearsals and communicate with choirs and musicians
- Direct Chancel Choir
- Direct or oversee handbell choir
- Direct or oversee youth and children’s choirs
- Manage music library including purchase of materials
Community Involvement
- Occasional recitals, concerts, and other special events that welcome the community and/or feature guest musicians from the community are strongly encouraged.
- Participation in music programs outside the church should enhance and not interfere with St. Luke’s activities.
Requirements
- Commitment to serve God as a disciple of Jesus Christ
- Degree in music
- Experience as a director of music ministries
- Ability to conduct choirs and instrumentalists
- Incorporate traditional and contemporary styles of worship
- Comprehensive knowledge of sacred music
- Ability to relate to children, youth, and adults
- Ability to function as a team member and ministry leader
- Strong organizational skills; self-driven; ability to multi-task
- Ability to communicate faith through music and worship
- Ability to identify, recruit, and equip team members
