We are seeking a passionate and versatile Collaborative Pianist to join our dynamic musical team. In this role, you will serve as a vital musical partner, providing accompaniment and support across a variety of performances, services, and rehearsals. Your expertise will help create inspiring musical experiences by blending technical skill with creative improvisation, ensuring each performance resonates deeply with audiences. SCHEDULE:
- Academic Year: September 2024 - May 2025
- Mondays & Tuesdays, 3:30-6:30pm
- Wednesdays, 3:30-8:30pm
- Thursday, YAP masterclass 4:45-6:30
- Dress rehearsals and concerts roughly once a month with additional calls during holiday season.
- Full schedule available prior to contract for 2026-2027 season
COMPENSATION: Though part-time, this position is foundational to the Choir School of Delaware program. For the 2025-2026 academic year, the salary is $16,000.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with vocalists, instrumentalists, conductors, and directors to develop cohesive and expressive performances.
- Prepare and rehearse a wide repertoire of music, including hymn music, concert pieces, and theatrical selections.
- Accompany live performances during religious services, concerts, and community events with precision and sensitivity.
- Read sheet music fluently and adapt arrangements as needed to suit different performance contexts.
- Incorporate musical improvisation and composition techniques to enhance spontaneous moments during performances.
- Assist in music selection by suggesting appropriate pieces that align with thematic or liturgical themes.
- Maintain a high level of musical literacy across genres, blending styles such as classical, gospel, jazz, and contemporary music.
Requirements
- Proven experience in religious music performance and concert music performance settings.
- Strong knowledge of musical liturgical practices and hymn music traditions.
- Proficiency in playing the piano is essential; additional skills in guitar, drums, organ, or other musical instruments are a plus.
- Familiarity with digital audio workstation (DAW) software for recording or editing performances.
- Experience with acoustic treatment techniques to optimize sound quality in performance spaces.
- Ability to read sheet music fluently and harmonize melodies effectively across different genres.
- Demonstrated skill in musical improvisation composition and blending diverse music genres seamlessly.
- Theater experience is advantageous for engaging live audiences and supporting theatrical productions involving music.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
