Make a difference every day! Lawrence School seeks a dedicated and passionate music director to lead our Spring Musical.
The music director be responsible for overseeing and guiding all musical aspects of our production available for students in 7th-12th grades. This candidate will collaborate closely with the stage director, performers, and choreographer. Their role will involve leading rehearsals, modifying/arranging music as needed, and running audio accompaniment from the sound booth during performances.
JOB DUTIES:
- Musical Leadership: Lead and conduct rehearsals; We will be using stage tracks, so conducting a live ensemble is not necessary.
- Music Arrangements: Arrange and adapt music for different ensembles as needed
- Music Technology: Work show tracks (training provided)
- Collaboration: Work closely with stage director and choreographer throughout the rehearsal process
- Performance Preparation: Oversee and prepare musical scores, ensuring all parts are properly notated and rehearsed
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Previous experience as a music director or in a similar role
- Basic piano skills required, although providing full accompaniment is not necessary since we will be using show tracks
- Must be able to lead vocal warm-ups and conduct a vocal ensemble
- Enthusiastic, supportive, compassionate, and patient
- An essential understanding that Lawrence students may need extra time and learning supports during rehearsal
- A deep commitment to ensuring a positive rehearsal experience for all
SCHEDULE:
- Production dates: April 24-27, 2024
- Rehearsals begin the first week of February and will be held three times a week from 3:30-5 p.m.
- There may also be occasional Saturday rehearsals.
- The exact rehearsal schedule will be determined based on the candidate's availability, but they should expect to attend approximately three rehearsals per week.
