Job Goal: The Summer Youth Musical Theater Director will lead the one month summer theater camp at Hamilton High School under the leadership of the Supervisor of Fine Arts
Reports to: Supervisor of Fine Arts
Essential Functions
The summer youth theater director will:
Serve as a role model for students
Encourage and inspire all students to grow, develop and be successful
Lay the foundation for life-long skills of commitment, resilience, and responsibility
Establish procedures that address all safety concerns
Train team members in the areas of safety and care for each other
Explicitly teach and ensure professional standards for student performances
Embrace and teach the philosophy of working together and contributing to a purpose larger than oneself
Serve as the Artistic Director
Select the musical for summer camp performance
Lead all rehearsals (multiple times per week during production)
Coach actors
Produce show
Create, build and oversee the budget
Set ticket prices
Select performance dates and times
Develop a marketing and advertising strategy for the production
Assume responsibility for make-up design
Lead costume crew
Assume responsibility for light design
Secure and coordinate with sound engineer
Recruit students for productions
Communicate with students and parents
Qualifications Profile:
Background in the Performing Arts
High-quality oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational and planning skills
Open to new ideas and the ability to adapt to change
Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity
Awareness of safety concerns and risk management
Pupil Activity Permit: requirements established by the HCSD Board of Education
Conduct: Each staff member shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
