Case Western Reserve University, one of the nation's leading research universities, seeks an accomplished, collaborative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as Assistant Vice President of Health & Counseling Services and Chief Health Officer. Reporting to Vice President for Student Affairs Travis Apgar, this senior-level health care executive will ensure the provision of high quality student-centered healthcare, elevating CWRU's student-centered focus and creating innovative approaches to campus health and wellbeing, positioning CWRU as a national model of excellence. The Assistant Vice President of Health & Counseling Services and Chief Health Officer (AVP-CHO) will provide leadership for all aspects of University Health & Counseling Services (UCHS), setting the strategic direction, ensuring the alignment of programs, and advocating for student health and wellness in all its forms.
University Health & Counseling Services values a collaborative and holistic approach to treating the mind and body. The interdisciplinary team includes physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, nurses, medical assistants, and athletic trainers for student athletes. Offering health promotion programs including building resiliency, stress management, healthy sleep, and mindfulness programs, as well as specialty services for substance abuse and sexual health, the UHCS collaborates with the entire university community through education and outreach to promote a culture of safety and respect, fostering lifelong health. The mission of the UHCS is to advance the well-being, development and academic success of our student body, made up of people with a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences, through integrated medical, mental health, and wellness services.
The AVC-CHO will oversee a committed, collaborative staff of over 50 individuals, including six directors. The role provides leadership and oversight of the care of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as an additional 1,500 students from nearby smaller colleges including the Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine, the Cleveland Institute of Art, and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

The successful candidate will be an experienced health care leader who combines a focus on operational excellence of a comprehensive program of campus health and well-being, including medical, counselling, wellness, occupational and public health services, along with the ability to lead, guide and advise campus leaders on campus health issues and policies. This executive will consistently convey a student-centered focus and be committed to a high functioning team environment.
