Job Summary
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Sound Designer/Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in live theater, with proficiency in industry-standard sound equipment. This role involves managing sound needs for shows both at our theater in Hollywood as well as at various schools throughout LAUSD. A TB test and LiveScan will be required for employment
Responsibilities
- Run all Sound Cues for performances
- Sound design the show (this includes any necessary edits, recording pre-show announcement, house music, play-off music, after speeches, etc)
- Set up sound equipment at each location, including speakers, receivers and sound board
- Ensure all cables are properly run and gaffed as needed
- Maintain sound equipment as needed
- Create mic plot & send of give one to SM or ASM to post backstage
- Check in with Director & Stage Manager prior to rehearsal re: Micing and time management
- Perform sound checks before every rehearsal and show
- Ensure any AND all sound/mic issues are addressed and fixed by WEDNESDAY of TECH for a full run through (unless you have Monday off and then Thursday should be your full dress run)
- Make sure batteries are fully charged in advance of whenever they are needed
- Other tasks as assigned
- Assisting with load in/out
- Completing inventory list and entering it into the Google master spreadsheet
- Ensuring you have ALL supplies/inventory replenished before every tech week
- Obtaining a sub if you aren’t able to make a shift and ensuring the sub is given full details regarding the coverage if absent. If it is a planned absence, please make sure your shift is covered within 72 hours of your scheduled shift. Please notify the Director and Stage Manager of the coverage.
Requirements
- Proven experience in live events, including sound design, mic'ing, and sound engineering processes.
- Understanding of sound equipment and the ability to troubleshoot/fix if necessary
- Ability to make repairs to mic packs a big plus
- Proficiency in Behringer sound boards.
- Strong understanding of sound techniques.
- Excellent creative skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey ideas and feedback during the design process.
- A portfolio showcasing previous work in sound design or related fields is highly desirable.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
