WORK SCHEDULE: Saturday, from 9:45am to 12:15pm | November 2024 - May 2025
(*No programming on November 30, December 21, December 28, January 4, January 11, March 29, and April 19).
PAY RATE: $48.00/hr, Includes teaching, planning, meetings, performances, etc.
LOCATION: Rainey Institute, 1705 East 55th St, Cleveland OH 44103
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Teaching Artist(s) will be responsible for providing weekly instruction to beginner and intermediate students in the RYSE Ensemble, Rainey’s popular music initiative. This teaching artist will work closely with the RYSE Coordinator and Music Program Manager to plan and facilitate weekly lessons that foster creativity through improvisation and ear training while advancing the broader goals of musical and personal growth. We are specifically seeking teaching artists who can teach guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Versatility in more than one instrument is highly valued, as it will enhance the ensemble’s dynamic learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish routine and reinforce fundamental music skills, focusing on popular music styles (e.g., Jazz, Blues, Funk, Hip Hop, R&B).
- Teach and coach rehearsals, plan lessons, and prepare the group for performances.
- Provide 1-on-1 lessons as needed to support individual student growth.
- Encourage improvisation, peer-teaching, and collaborative musicianship.
- Maintain excellent classroom management and foster an inclusive learning environment.
- Appropriately challenge students individually and as an ensemble, guiding them in both formal training and creative expression.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in Music Performance or Music Education and/or Proven record of outstanding artistry or musicianship
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy and teaching methods
- Experience working with children from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness to work as part of a team
